SEO Copywriter


Key Responsibilities

  • Research and write overlay copy for organic & ad campaign creatives (design and video)

  • Copy for social media post captions

  • Copy for digital ad campaigns (including Meta, Google, and LinkedIn)

  • Copy for Instagram Stories

  • Long form blog writing & research

  • English/Afrikaans video subtitles and translations

  • Website copy 

  • Email/Newsletter copy


Our ideal hire will:

  • Have the ability to generate fresh, engaging ideas and adapt messaging to suit different brands, platforms, and audiences

  • Be capable of producing copy that stands out while following sometimes strict word limitations, including clever and memorable headlines, captions, and call-to-actions tailored to each platform (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)

  • Ability to work closely with designers, marketers, and other team members to ensure cohesive content across different channels

  • Ability to conduct basic keyword research to ensure content is optimised for search engines

  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic on-page SEO principles, such as meta tags, headers, image optimisation, and internal linking

  • Comfort with writing, editing, and publishing content (visual & copy) within CMS platforms (such as WordPress) including basic formatting and SEO plugin usage (like Yoast or Rank Math)

  • Ability to leverage AI tools like ChatGPT or Jasper to streamline tasks, generate ideas, or optimise copy efficiently

  • Be profisient in creating copy in different brand voices that resonates with specific target audiences by understanding customer personas, tone, and language preferences

  • Be empathy-driven, knowing what will engage or evoke emotion in the audience

  • Have up-to-date knowledge of evolving social media trends and algorithms and how to leverage them in copy to maximise reach and engagement

  • Be familiar with hashtag strategies, keyword strategies, SEO for social media, and trending content formats

  • Be skilled at weaving storytelling into copy, transforming product or service information into compelling narratives

  • Have the ability to embody and evolve a brand’s voice, ensuring consistency across all platforms while tailoring language and tone to each channel’s style

  • Be able to convey messages effectively within limited character counts, mastering short, impactful copy

  • Be comfortable with analytics tools and metrics, understanding how to use data insights to improve copy and content strategies over time

  • Be willing to A/B test and iterate based on performance metrics to enhance engagement rates

  • Differentiate between copy aimed at getting organic engagement, copy aimed at growing brand awareness and knowledge, and copy aimed at getting conversions - and write copy that aligns with the different goals

  • Have a keen editor’s eye: there’s a spelling mistake on this list, prove you read everything by pointing out the spelling mistake somewhere in your application

  • Pay close attention to grammar, punctuation, and spelling, with strong copy editing skills

  • Be home-language proficient in English and Afrikaans

  • Be skilled at effective time management to handle multiple projects, deadlines, and collaboration with design and strategy teams


Requirements:

A Degree in a related field and at least three years experience.
